I was hoping I wouldn’t be watching another Steelers/Seahawks game of three seasons ago when I could tell you that the Steelers won but no idea what the score was.
This game had everything you could ask for. There was a juggernaut, the Patriots, who had won more games this season than any team in NFL history against the Giants, who caught fire toward the end of the season and carried that momentum all the way to a world championship.
Though I’m not a Giants fan it was also nice to see Michael Strahan win his first Super bowl and for Eli Manning to get the media off his back, even if just for a day.
I was mostly just glad that the Patriots didn’t win. Nothing would have been worse than for Belichick to cheat his way to another Super Bowl victory or Randy Moss, who basically quit trying in Oakland so they would trade him, to get his first ring.
The one Patriot I do respect is Wes Welker. He seems to be thriving in a way that nobody could have imagined when he was an undersized recruit who signed with Texas Tech. He got to where he is by just wanting it more than anyone else. Though he will likely never be one of the top tier receivers in the league like Chad Johnson or Moss he’s also not likely to ever call out his coaches or quit on his team in the middle of a season.
I think in the end, it was not only one of the best Super Bowls off all time but also one of the biggest upsets. So while the commercials were a little disappointing, the game was everything viewers could ask for and then some.
